The Perennial Path: from Chaos to Self

Life is a huge puzzle. We begin, without considering that there is a puzzle. Do we not know who we are? Somewhere underneath, our essential self demands that we consider that puzzle: Who am I? Whom should I become? The mystery alters as we grow and encounter life’s challenges. We consider answers others have discovered as we explore what might be revealed along our route.
The Perennial Path is a reading and discussion group, a conversation for those interested in undertaking the journey of self-discovery aided by the ideas of others: writers, artists, philosophers, and thoughtful friends. Twice each month, we will gather around the table to share a light, family-style meal (included with the cost of the club), and discuss the ideas inspired by our readings.
In place of complete books, there will be carefully selected essays, short stories, poems, and excerpts from those writers and thinkers who have encountered similar challenges. The readings are intentionally brief, leaving plenty of room for what matters most: thoughtful and lively conversation.

The Perennial Path is led by Lois Ascher and Jen Perry.
Lois Ascher is a retired humanities professor whose academic career began with literature and evolved into Urban Culture Studies. While teaching literature, she avoided book groups; in retirement, however, her love of literature has returned through the pleasure of exploring it in the company of others.
Jen Perry is a lifelong lover of books, meaningful conversation, and the founder of Illume Books.

merchandise returns for store credit within 14 days. No returns on Illume Essence, art & unwrapped games. All returns at discretion of the bookseller.

Illume is an experience for readers that's meant to showcase a careful selection of titles much in the same way an art gallery would display an exhibition.

Titles are always shown "cover forward", and our inventory rotates to reflect current reader interests, shifting topics, and obscure finds. That said, we LOVE recommendations! Let us know what you're looking for, or what your favorite reads are. You may find them on the shelves soon!
